Today our school celebrated the work and skill of our
amazing school custodian, Mr. Steve
. He knows the students, they love and
respect him. He’s willing to help out
with the craziest of plans. He’s fun and
upbeat.
To celebrate his helpfulness, poems were recited, books were
written and illustrated. We even had a
song to sing. The student council
purchased a gift for him. It was a nice
gesture. Yet this important helpful
staff member’s job has been privatized. He no longer has medical care, sick time or a
decent living wage.
:( I didn't expect your post to end this way.. it's startling but really sends the message home. It is awesome that he is celebrating with the respect and gratitude from all of you. I hope his efforts are acknowledged with proper benefits and wage soon also. That is a shame.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a powerful post with a strong juxtaposition of feelings. I was lifted up and then dropped suddenly, poor custodian - he deserves better.
