Today as I sat down for my review with my principal she asked me if I do any professional reading. How Much?
Tonight, while I was doing our taxes, I totaled up my Amazon expenses for last year $774.32. That's how much!
Lori, I loved what you wrote. I don't plan to ever stop professional reading. I am a new teacher and have a stack of reading to do this summer. I also began the school year with a list of wanna reads. My first day I was given Teach Like a Champion, it was on my list and felt like a sign that I am finally in a place where my desire to grow and improve would be nourished and matched by my colleagues.

I don't even want to total mine up! I have piles of to-be-read books all over the place, and my Amazon boxes keep coming in! Between books for my classroom library and professional reading, it's never ending (in a good way, of course!).
See it as an investment in your professional growth and a commitment to your students. Well done. I wish more educator would see professional reading as an essential element of their core work as educators. A short pithy post that carries a lot of weight. Powerful message indeed. I'm pleased your principal asked this important question. You certainly had it covered...
